Orientation Week 2011

Vanderbilt Dean of Admissions Todd Morton and Dean Chris Guthrie welcomed the 194 members of the Class of 2014 to Vanderbilt on August 15. Incoming 1Ls, whose undergraduate majors include business, chemistry, biology, mathematics, literature, economics, political science, psychology and education and other fields, were divided into three sections and took a week-long class, The Life of the Law, that provides an overview of the American legal system and a short primer on American legal history and philosophy. Orientation week activities also included a welcome lunch, student panel presentations and the traditional class photo. The week concluded with a student organization fair and a Friday afternoon Blackacre cookout. Members of the Class of 2014 collectively represent 34 states, Washington, D.C., and six foreign nations, and 99 undergraduate colleges. Almost 60 percent of class members graduated at least one year before entering law school, and 15 students hold another advanced degree.
